Cuban Cyclists Tour San Luis, Argentina

HAVANA TIMES, Jan 23 — A Cuban team will compete today in the sixth Tour de San Luis cycling competition in Argentina along with 24 other teams and stars of world cycling, reports the Granma newspaper.

Santiago de Cuba native Arnold Alcolea, the two-time winner of the Vuelta a Cuba (2009 and 2010) and the bronze medalist in the Guadalajara 2011 Pan-American Games, will lead the Cuban sextet consisting of Yasmani Martinez, Yenier Lopez, Yan Carlos Arias, Ruben Companioni and Jose Mujica, who have all qualified for the continental championship this coming March.

Today the racers will cover 189.3 kilometers in the first leg of a seven-stage route that will take them 1,051 kilometers. The course will also include individual time trials, two races to the summit and the ascent of the Alto de Nogoli, at 2,084 meters above sea level.
