Party Leader Criticizes Cuban Sugar Mill Inefficiency
HAVANA TIMES, Jan 25 — The first secretary of the Communist Party in Guantanamo province, Luis Torres Iribar, today criticized the sugar industry in that territory for production shortfalls, the Granma newspaper reported.
After a little more than 50 days into the most recent campaign, all indicators of the only mill in the province are marked with negative signs in terms of milling, sugar production, yields and cost per ton of unrefined sugar, in addition to electricity generation and its supply to the national grid.
The poor quality of maintenance and industrial breakdowns have led to the unfavorable output, therefore the leader demanded “greater intransigence toward labor indiscipline and technologies” on the part of the administrative structures, unions and politicians.
