President of Brazil Visits Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, 31 ene — Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff arrived to Cuba on an official visit on Monday afternoon.  The goal of her trip is to strengthen bilateral ties especially in the economic and commercial spheres, reported the Cuban press on Tuesday.

After Venezuela, Brazil is Cuba’s second largest trade partner in South America. Several joint project are in the works including a major renovation of the Mariel Port, west of Havana.

Likewise, a possible large-scale Brazilian investment in sugar production is being considered.

Rousseff took office on January 1, 2011, becoming the first female president in Brazilian history.
