‘Cachao’ Wins Grammy
HAVANA TIMES, Feb 13 — The famous Cuban bassist Israel “Cachao” Lopez won a Grammy award yesterday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the best tropical music album with his production “The Last Mambo.”
During the 54th edition of the US recording industry awards ceremony, two songs were featured from the album, which involved Cuban artists Lucrecia, Isaac Delgado and Hanssel. The songs were “Homenaje a los rumberos” by Edwin Bonilla, and “Mongorama” by Jose Rizo.
According to the website Café Fuerte, Cachao was the only Cuban awarded. The other nominee from the island was Eliades Ochoa, who was not awarded in the category of Best World Music Album for his CD “AfroCubism.”
