Cuba to Participate in Olympic Wrestling Trials in US
HAVANA TIMES, March 16 — Cuban wrestlers will participate in the Olympic qualifying rounds for the Americas, which will be held from March 23 to 25 in the US city of Orlando, Florida. Fourteen athletes from the island will be competing there, reported the Cuban Information Agency on Thursday.
According to the National Commissioner of the sport, the team will present 11 men and three women, who will leave this coming Tuesday with the aim of securing spots for the London Olympics.
The Orlando tournament will be attended by all countries of the Americas, where the top two nations in each division will move on to the summer event in England.
At the recent World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, Cuba secured three tickets for the Olympics for Greco-wrestlers Mijail Lopez (120 kg) and Pedro Issac Mulen (66 kg.), and for freestyler Livan Lopez (66 kg.).
