Chavez Leaves Cuba for Caracas

HAVANA TIMES, March 29 — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez left Havana on Wednesday night from Jose Marti International Airport bound for Caracas after receiving his fifth session of radiotherapy after having arrived on March 24.

In statements to Venezuelan television, the president said he felt fine and was in full recovery.

The treatment that he is undergoing consists of a total of five cycles of radiotherapy similar to the one he has just received.

Chavez denied any metastasis and repeated that he is confident of his full recovery, which means that he plans to continue on with his bid for a third term in the upcoming presidential elections set for October 7.

Chavez did not meet with Benedict XVI during the Pope’s visit to the island, saying that he did not want to “interfere” with the religious leader’s scheduled agenda.

Upon arriving in Caracas, Chavez held a late night meeting with several members of his cabinet.
