Spanish Foundation Rehabilitating Cuban Nurseries

HAVANA TIMES — UNICEF’s Early Childhood Development Program, through a project undertaken by the Spanish Fundación Iberostar, is rehabilitating five day care centers that were damaged by earthquakes in 2010 in the Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba.

According to Europa Press, Iberostar will expend a total of 144,000 euros to benefit more than 900 children and their families served by the five facilities. Nevertheless, a total of 23 nurseries were damaged and fail to meet the minimum standards of safety and quality.

The project will end this November and includes painting, carpentry and repair of water and electrical systems.

Last week, several tremors were felt in the east of the island, though there were no reports of casualties or material damage.
