Danza Contemporanea of Cuba Dedicates Work to Teofilo Stevenson
HAVANA TIMES — The Compañia Danza Contemporanea de Cuba dedicated its debuting work “Sombrisa,” choreographed by Israeli artist Itzik Galili, to the late boxer Teofilo Stevenson. The work will be presented at the Gran Theatro de La Habana.
The work has boxing as its thematic thread, a sport with a long tradition both in Cuba and in the British city of Newcastle, which was where the work had its world premiere this past May 3, added the news note from the Prensa Latina news agency.
The program will also include “Carmen” and “Mambo 3XXI,” works, which — along with “Sombrisa” — were presentations in the recent tour of the Cuban company through ten cities in the UK as part of the cultural activities leading up to the London Olympics.
