Air Time Cut on Cuban Political Program

HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban television program “La Mesa Redonda” (The Round Table), will be reduced to one hour starting September 10, reported the Café Fuerte website.

The program will be broadcast from 7-8 pm, Monday through Friday, reducing it by a half an hour though keeping the “La Esquina” (The Corner) section hosted by journalist Reinaldo Taladrid.

The program will continue airing on Cubavision, Radio Rebelde and Radio Havana Cuba, and will continue its nighttime and weekend rebroadcasts.

No explanation has been given for the cut back in air time, though its viewing audience is estimated to be low, according to Café Fuerte.

“La Mesa Redonda” was a created by former President Fidel Castro 12 years ago as he ushered in his “Battle of Ideas” crusade. Since then the program become the voice of the Cuban government in conducting political campaigns.
