Sixty Foreign Ministers Head to Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, April 24 – Some 60 ministers representing the member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) will meet in the Cuban capital from April 27-30 to discuss issues including the environment, migration, regional conflicts and the world economic crisis.

Cuba has been the chair of the 118-member organization since 2006. Later this year, Egypt will take over the helm at the NAM Summit to be held in that North African country on July 11-16.

The first official NAM Summit took place in Belgrade, ex-Yugoslavia in 1961, during the height of the Cold War, with 25 participating countries committed to world peace and development, economic cooperation and democratization of international relations.
