Cuban Men’s Judo World Cup Team Selected
HAVANA TIMES — The final selection has been made of the members of Cuba’s men’s judo team, which will take part in the World Cup of that sport in the Brazilian city of Salvador on November 27 and 28, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Justo Noda will be in charge of the technical group, while the athletes selected are Gilberto Solar (66 kilos), Magdiel Estrada (73), Osmay Cruz (81); and Jose Armenteros and Yoandry Margarejo (over 90 kilos), with the latter member acting as a substitute.
According to the coach, the main objective in this tournament will put new athletes to the test in each of the weight classes with an eye on the 31st Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
For its part, the Cuban women’s team will be headed by the monarch of the 2012 London games, Idalis Ortiz, who will battle this time in the over 70 kilogram weight class. She will be accompanied by Yanet Bermoy (52 kilos), Aliuska Ojeda (57), Maricet Espinosa (63), Onyx Cortes (70) and substitute Kaliema Antomachín (over 70 kilos).
