Cuba’s Position Improves in Global Report on Gender Inequality
HAVANA TIMES — Cuba is the second country in Latin America and the Caribbean that appears in the report on gender inequality published by the World Economic Forum, reports EFE.
The Caribbean nation now ranks in 19th place (up from 20th) out of the 135 countries evaluated “because of the high percentage of women in professional and technical careers (60 percent of the total) and since it has the highest number of female parliamentarians in the world (45.2 percent),” reads the news article.
The report ranks countries based on their accomplishments in four key areas: access to health care, education, political participation and economic equality.
The World Economic Forum is headquartered in Geneva, and the organization is considered impartial, non-profit, and is not tied to any political, partisan or national interests.
