Cuban Discus Thrower Could be Awarded London 2012 Olympic Medal
HAVANA TIMES — Cuban discus thrower Yarelys Barrios could receive the bronze medal for the 2012 Olympic Games following the temporary suspension of Russian athlete Daria Pishchalnikova in a case of doping, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
According to the press service of the Russian anti-doping agency, the International Association of Athletics Federations has banned Pishchalnikova from any event after the athlete failed an examination on May 20.
The Cuban athlete, who came in fourth place in the summer event with a throw of 66.38 meters, could receive the medal if the Russian is officially disqualified, which would make Barrios a double Olympics medalist, since he won the silver in Beijing in 2008.
