Mock Election to Be Held in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban authorities will hold a mock election on Sunday, January 27, to test their readiness for the general elections to be held on February 3, reported the official Juventud Rebelde newspaper.

According to the secretary of the National Electoral Commission (CEN), Thomas Amaran, the exercise includes the testing of all equipment in the more than 29,000 polling stations. Efforts will also be made to ensure that all necessary materials for voting are in place, along with conditions to ensure privacy when electors cast their votes, he said.

“When we complete the testing, an analysis will be made of the major deficiencies and actions will be identified for making immediate corrections,” said Amaran.

In the upcoming general elections, approximately 8,500,000 Cubans will elect 612 MPs and 1,269 delegates to the Provincial Assemblies of People’s Power.
