Here I am the skeptic, tired of this routine, of mosquitoes, shortages, & blackouts, searching for things in Cuba that are still beautiful.

Few things transport me to a past moment with such overwhelming clarity as a melody or a scent. They are perfect time machines.

All united around a common target: the current government and its stance on sovereignty, mining, and social security.

If a population feels oppressed and yearns for freedom, the worst thing it can do is publicly pay homage to its leaders for the world to see.

Doing anything in today’s Cuba can be extremely complicated, but building a house is a Herculean, titanic task.
