“My Havana” Painting Exhibit Jan 15-30

The exhibition “Habana Mía” by visual artist Ileana Mulet will be on show at the Museo de Arte Colonial (San Ignacio No. 61, Habana Vieja) starting Tuesday, January 15 and running until the 30th. The exhibit will serve as the culmination of activities for the 40th anniversary of the Museo de Arte Colonial. The painter’s uses the theme of the city as her source of inspiration.

Japanese Craft by Cuban Hands

An exhibit of work by artists affiliated with the Cuban Association of Artisans (ACAA) will be on view until December 31, starting at 3 p.m., in the Casa de Asia (Mercaderes No. 111, Habana Vieja). Though one cannot speak of the existence strong roots of Japanese art here in Cuba, the art of modern Japan has been made available with great force through the Casa de Asia, which promotes a host of activities throughout the year.

Young saxophonist has received the special prize in several editions of the JoJazz competition/festival. He works with noted musicians such as Chicoy, Orlando (Cubajazz), Jorge Reyes and Bobby Carcases. His group is made up of players of the sax, piano, bass, drums and trumpet.

On Thursday, December 31, Rembert Duarte y su Banda Nautilus will be presented at La Zorra y el Cuervo (Calle 23 No. 155, Vedado) from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 in the morning. She is a pianist, composer and manager of her band, which is made up drums, tenor sax, flute and Miguel Miranda, who masterfully plays the bass, congas and other Cuban percussion instruments.
