The United States and Cuba announced Wednesday they have reached an agreement to reopen embassies in Washington and Havana after apparently working out the pending details, reports dpa news.

Cuba’s telecommunications company hastened this week to plug a leak that said that the state-run company, ETECSA (Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba, S.A.), would “offer broad-band Internet access packages to Cuban homes through ADSL technology and at varying connection speeds.”

The US State Department wants to send at least 15 Cubans to graduate school in the United States so they can “more effectively establish, lead, manage, and grow independent organizations in Cuba.”

Cuba and China will sign an agreement today on a joint venture involving the construction of a large building complex to accompany an 18-hole golf course east of Havana, the goverment’s ACN news reported.

Elaina Faulner, an English tourist visiting Cuba, was the 4-millionth visitor to the Che memorial. Minutes after being informed of this, she told the press she was surprised and overjoyed at the news.

Spain’s minister of the Economy and Competitiveness, Luis de Guindos Jurado (shown in photo above), will travel to Cuba in the second week of July to meet with high-ranking government officials, the EFE news agency reported.

Cuban authorities said today that the island has no plans to open up to the controversial use of transgenic seeds, despite the possibilities offered by them to increase agricultural production, reported dpa news.
