Varadero and Cayo Santa Maria

Just over eight years ago, I had the chance to go and visit Cayo Santa Maria, thanks to some friends of friends who live in another country.

For over three years our country suffers medicine shortages. Something that wasn’t as bad during the Special Period crisis in the ‘90s.

Today, couples in Cuba go to bed thinking about what they’re going to eat the next day. When they awake that’s the first topic of conversation.

A friend of a friend, who lives in Pinar del Rio city, agreed to sell me 10 pounds of rice for the “reasonable” price of 15 pesos per pound.

There are major differences in dealing with rights, media and public, information and expression, in autocracies and democracies.

What place is this? Where the hell am I now? That’s me opening my eyes in the morning, trying to recognize the roof and walls around me.

Despite being over 30 , I always loved cartoons. Many complained about the “Russian cartoons”, but to tell you the truth, I really liked them.

During this pandemic, I’ve learned to live differently, it’s an opportunity to understand that the here and now is what really matters.

It’s happened to me twice now. Every time it’s happened, I’ve thought that I may have stirred some kind of attraction in them.
