Cuba has suffered changes for over 60 years, but few of them have benefited the general population, despite we’ve always been told otherwise.
Diana’s story is perhaps one of many. However, my family and I have experienced it firsthand and suffered as a result… she is our neighbor.
People were standing in line since the early morning. It rained at times with nowhere to shelter. We were like stray dogs waiting for a bone.
Overcharging goods, even in state-run stores, is common practice today. Cubans accept this and pay because they have no other choice.
Cuba’s scriptwriters have been totally forgotten in this time of the pandemic. It seems really unfair since supposedly “Nobody is abandoned”.
It will take us some time to get back to this normal. It will be hard for some to leave their homes: facing the new reality frightens them.
To us there’s nothing like pure Cuban coffee. Unfortunately, very few Cubans can enjoy this coffee. Most only get a a coffee/chickpea blend.
