Cuba Sends Corrupt Officials to Prison

A Havana court sentenced 14 unnamed officials and a Chilean businessman for corruption charges in the civil aeronautics and travel industries, reported government sources on Monday. The former head of the aeronautics board General Rogelio Acevedo was removed from his powerful post when the scandal broke a little over a year ago. No mention was made whether he was one of those sentenced.

With a documentary that came in at 50 million euros, the Festival of French Cinema opened in Cuba, and already the movie Oceans, by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud, has had a major impact on audiences in the capital city. Chinese VP Xi Jinping arrives in Havana on Saturday evening on an official visit, reported the Cuban press. China is Cuba’s second leading trade partner, after Venezuela, and the VP will meet with President Raul Castro, First VP Jose Ramon Machado Ventura and other top leaders.
