HAVANA TIMES, Dec 27 — The deadline for the relatives of Spanish exiles to apply for citizenship in that country under the Historical Memory Law ends today (December 27), reported EFE.

Due to the high number of applications, in early 2010 Spain agreed to extend the deadline to December 27, 2011 for the processing of the requests.

For three years the children and grandchildren of people who were exiled during the Spanish Civil War and during the first stage of the Franco regime were granted this right.

The majority of those who were forced out of Spain went to Argentina, Cuba, Mexico and France; consequently the greatest numbers of applications are coming from the consulates in those countries.
