No Conditions for Elections in Nicaragua, says Catholic Church

The Catholic Church’s Peace & Justice Committee in Managua denounced Tuesday the lack of conditions for democratic elections in the country.

Antonio Gutierres, UN Secretary General, expressed concern over the situation in Nicaragua and latest measures taken against the opposition.

By eliminating the November elections, Ortega accelerated his crisis of legitimacy, in defiance of the national and international community.

The Nicaraguan singer-songwriters Carlos and Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy called the Ortega government a “totalitarian, neo-Stalinist, regime.”

“Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo want to win the elections without competition.”

Nicaragua offers Russia what it “hasn’t managed to consolidate a large presence in Latin America, beyond long-time allies Cuba and Venezuela.”
