Nicaragua: The Kidnapper Offers “Proof of Life”

We witnessed an exhibition of cowardice and cruelty, presenting the public prisoners who were pale and gaunt, their weight loss visible.

Many are excited over what could happen if the majority incline towards the Approve option. It’s also impossible not to feel nervous & anxious.

Who will sound the trumpets that tear down the walls? Who will shatter the glass panes of silence?

What response is expected in the face of the lies, slander and threats made by shadowy officials from the Ministry of the Interior?

Fear has been installed as the great gendarme in charge of repressing Nicaraguan society as a whole.

If what the citizens want is a new Constitution, the plebiscite may turn out to be a game of all or nothing.

It is a new euphemism to name the fatigue and sacrifice with which Cubans face their day by day existence.

A vote to Approve can be seen as the beginning of a new way of life for groups that have historically been excluded from the country.

We must decide now if uncertainty is going to remain the daily fare of Nicaraguans, or if there’ll be a road of hope towards democracy.

It’s characteristic of Cubans to end something & do it all over again differently, rather than be interested in slow and systematic progress.
