Working with the White House

HAVANA TIMES — On Saturday the second group of international press accredited by the White House arrived in Havana, slated to work around the clock to cover the visit to Cuba by the president of the United States, Barack Obama.

“I’d love to see the whole event close up,” I thought fantasizing. And to my surprise, I was chosen to collaborate with Paz Communications in covering the biggest historical event in my life.

Who’d guess this Cuban would be working with the White House, to put in his grain of sand towards the rapprochement of Cuba and the United States in favor of a free flow of information, understanding and mutual respect?

For now, at 4:18 pm Eastern time, Obama arrived at the Jose Marti International Airport, where he was received by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, Communist Party officials and the international press.

On Tuesday March 22 President Obama will address the Cuban people from the Havana Grand Theater, an incredible happening for my country.

Especially for my family, and thanks to President Obama’s visit to Havana, it was possible that my mother and sister share a few hours of happiness together. That happiness that many people hope to experience from the improved relations between the two countries.
