Miss Teen Nicaragua Shaves Head in Solidarity with Political Prisoners
HAVANA TIMES – Idania Flores, Miss Teen Nicaragua 2017, decided to show her support for the more than 300 political prisoners of the government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. The young woman shaved her head to draw attention to the plight of her fellow Nicaraguans.
“I live daily the pain of being in exile, without my family, without my friends and without the warmth of my homeland, wondering if that farewell was the last time I would embrace them. Psychologically tortured … also, I feel daily a burning in my heart for all political prisoners who feel the same or worse than I. It’s My little gesture of solidarity for my imprisoned brothers and sisters,” Idania wrote on her Instagram account.
Idania is originally from Masaya and is currently outside the country due to the political crisis that Nicaragua is going through, which has left more than 480 Nicaraguans dead because of the Ortega government. My support goes out “to each brother and sister who has lost their freedom struggling to recover that of our Nicaragua,” I am not in Nicaragua, but Nicaragua is in me!” she said.
Miss Teen Nicaragua, who also represented the country in the Miss Teen Universe contest, making it within the 16 finalists, began the campaign # sospresospolíticos on Instagram, where several followers have said that they would also join.
