Capablanca Chess Tournament Recommences in Cuba Tomorrow
HAVANA TIMES — Chess players participating in the Capablanca Tournament are now enjoying a required break after each having played five games of the first round, currently again led by the Ukrainian master Vassily Ivanchuk.
Ivanchuk remains undefeated with 3.5 points after having beaten Czech player Viktor Laznicka on Tuesday. Prior to that he took down Cuba’s own Leinier Dominguez and tied with the Russians Vladimir Potkin and Ian Nepomniachtchi, as well as with another local competitor: Yunieski Quesada.
According to the Prensa Latina news agency, Cuban grand master Dominguez appears in second place with three points – just ahead of Laznicka and Nepomniachtchi, both with 2.5 points.
On Thursday, at the beginning of the second round, matches will be seen between Potkin and Ivanchuk; Dominguez and Laznicka; and Nepomniachtchi and Quesada.
