Cuba and Morocco Reestablish Diplomatic Relations
HAVANA TIMES – Cuba today reestablished diplomatic relations with Morocco, which had been broken in 1980, following the expulsion of the Cuban ambassador from Rabat, dpa reported.
The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations. It came days after the private visit of King Mohamed VI and his family to the Cuban capital where they booked the entire 96-room Saratoga Hotel in Old Havana. The Moroccan monarch’s agenda was not public and the Cuban state media did not broadcast it.
Participating for Cuba was Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo and for Morocco side Omar Hilale, both ambassadors of their respective countries to the United Nations.
“Both governments proceeded to re-establish these relations guided by the mutual will to develop friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries in the political, economic, cultural and other fields,” said the Cuban government’s Prensa Latina news agency.
In April 1980, Morocco broke diplomatic relations with Cuba after Fidel Castro’s official recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
Now, after the diplomatic reestablishment with Morocco, only Israel, South Korea and Somalia remain the only countries that do not maintain ties with Havana.

nidal I am not without sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians and with regard to Cuba, it is an ally of Hamas and provided military support to the Syrian invasion of Israel known in history as the “Yum Kippur war”. Cuba has under the Castro family regime pursued a strong anti-Israel policy, but typically quietly works with an Israeli company in Tel-Aviv to market its (annually decreasing) citrus crop.
The defined meaning of the word ‘genocide’ is:
“the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular race or nation.”
That is the sole definition.
Whereas I can agree that Israel has killed a substantial number of Palestinians, I cannot agree that they seek the “extermination of the Palestinian race”. In order to do so, they would have to kill some 18% of the citizens of Israel.
In my unqualified opinion we are within the subject at hand as it concerns the restoration of relations between Cuba and a Muslim Arab country which had previously broken off diplomatic relations.
I think it significant that this has occurred after the death of the hot-headed Fidel Castro.
Any and all effort in the direction of peace in the Middle East is appreciated and I will say thank you for your thoughts , Israel did not hesitate to demolish Palestinian historic sites , next to my , hometown there is the Herodium which was Jewish King herod’s Palace , the minute it came under Israeli control they destroyed panels that depicts Jewish defeat in other words not even Jewish historic sites is safe from the Zionist , Israelis get 10 million dollars a day from United States of America the not paying anything out of there pocket ,
Havana times insist that we stick to the subject at hand ,
to make a long story short we the Palestinians are the sacrifice that refuses to roll over and die and anything everything we throwback is Justified , we want our country back , it is not a comfortable place to being caught between damned if you do and damned if you don’t , there’s many definitions to the word genocide considering that the Israeli politics revolve around the extermination of the Palestinian race the word genocide applies there is no other way around it .
You have to admit nidal shehadeh that Cuba has been all too willing to access the funding of UNESCO to repair and restore such wonderful sites as Old Havana, Trinidad de Cuba, Vinales and currently Cienfuegos. The monies thus accessed include the contribution of Israel which despite its small size and relatively tiny population contributes some 3% of the total funding. So Cuba had the chance to do without Israel, but chose otherwise – like many Communist entities it seeks money from the capitalist world. The US is the largest single contributor to UNESCO.
if as you claim a “genocide” has been ongoing in Palestine (and in the current Israel) for 137 years it has been remarkably unsuccessful and i suggest to you that in that time the Arab population of that area has actually increased.
You may recall that in these columns, I suggested that the US should reduce funding to israel by 1 million dollars per year – every year, for each house built by Israel upon Palestinian land. Is that a good idea?
Did Mahmoud Abbas pursue that concept with Donald Trump? If not why not?
I understand the anguish which drives you. But you will be more effective if you minimize the
rhetoric and pursue means of addressing the problems which affect your homeland.
Relations with South Korea are being built since last year, with Israel is more difficult.

Cuba could definitely do without Israel especially with the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian , this genocide have been ongoing for the last hundred and thirty-seven years since 1886
