Cuba Census Approaches Conclusion

HAVANA TIMES — “Cuba was scheduled to officially close the information gathering stage of the 2012 Population and Housing Census,” however unofficial reports confirmed delays in the process, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The irregularities and errors in filling out the forms, which occurred due to the inexperience of the census takers, have caused delays in Havana, where there are still many households that have yet to be surveyed, said a source close to Census program, though they wished not to be named.

Another official involved in the process said it is possible that activities will be extended through tomorrow, Tuesday, to wind up the collection of information, though research director Juan Carlos Alfonso said “the exercise will be completed satisfactorily and on time.”

As of this past Friday, the National Bureau of Statistics and Information had surveyed more than 9 million of the 11.2 million people living permanently on the island.
