Cuba Gov. Wants New Attitude Toward Taxes

HAVANA TIMES, Jan. 27 —  Cuba will attempt to create a tax culture starting at an early age through an educational software produced at the Higher Institute of Pedagogy of Holguín, to the northeast of the island, reported IPS.. The initiative responds to the call by President Raúl Castro to raise the population’s economic knowledge.

For decades taxation has not been a part of the national scene in Cuba, with almost all workers earning a salary from the state.  Today’s economic crisis, along with the massive layoffs underway, has made paying taxes essential for the government’s plans to meet social expenditures.
