Cuba Loses Second Top Ball Player
HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 13 – Cuban baseball player Leslie Anderson, a member of the island’s team to the 2nd World Baseball Classic, left Cuba and is in Mexico, where he hopes to get a possible contract with the U.S. Major Leagues, reported IPS.
Anderson is the baseball star who has left the Caribbean country this week, after pitcher Yuniesky Maya, last season’s top right-handed pitcher.
Anderson was one of Cuba’s most versatile players, playing both outfield and infield positions. In the Classic he started at first base when Alexander Mayeta failed to meet expectations.
Neither Anderson nor Maya were on Cuba’s 2009 World Cup tournament team now playing at different European venues.
