Cuba to Update Its Labor Code
HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 3 — The Council of Ministers met on November 25 and 26, and dedicated time to discussion of the development of a new labor code.
The existing code has been revised by legislation over the past 25 years, though many of its original provisions remain in force, reported the Trabajadores (Workers) newspaper today.
However, the current code covers only the state sector, which is why a new code will be developed taking into account the new emphasis is being placed on self-employed and private labor. It is anticipated that those who hire workers will be responsible for complying with legislation covering occupational safety, health and security.
