Cuba-US Joint Maneuvers Near Gitmo
HAVANA TIMES, July 20 – Some 150 Cuban and U.S. military last week carried out joint maneuvers in areas bordering the U.S. Guantanamo Naval Base on occupied Cuban territory, reported IPS on Monday. The joint exercise, similar to others that have been carried out since 1999, simulated putting out a fire on the border area and dealing with a situation of mass casualties.
Even though the half-century US blockade on Cuba is still in tact and ordinary US citizens are forbidden by their government from visiting the neighboring Caribbean island, the military of the two countries have quietly worked together to avoid a possible conflict in Cuba’s far eastern province.
