Cuban Judoka Asley Gonzalez Wins Gold in Miami
HAVANA TIMES – The Cuban judoka Asley Gonzalez was crowned on Sunday with the gold medal in the 90 kg division of the Grand Prix of Miami and moved up to first place in the world rankings, reported Jit Online.
González, 2012 London Olympic runner up, dispatched his first rivals before concluding the five minutes of regulation, while the last, the Russian Grigorii Sulemin, made it to the last second of the match, when Gonzalez applied an Ippon.
“Now the goal is to keep training for the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro in August,” said the athlete.
With the success of Asley, Cuba ranked third among the 37 countries participating, after Russia and France, with two gold medals, one silver and two bronze.
