Cuba’s Baseball Postseason Starts Sat.

HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 26 — Cuba’s baseball playoffs get underway on Saturday in the western division with Sancti Spiritus hosting Industriales, the favorite of the capital, while Cienfuegos welcomes La Habana, last year’s champions.

The eastern division begins on Sunday with last season’s runner-ups Villa Clara hosting Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo welcoming Ciego de Avila.

The presence of both Cienfuegos and Guantanamo in the postseason are the big surprises of the year.

The first round of the playoffs —just like the second and then the championship series— is a best-of-seven competition.
