Cuba’s Main Cycling Event Begins
HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 9 — The 35th Vuelta a Cuba 13-day competition cycling tour of the island begins on Tuesday with stage one from far eastern Baracoa to the city of Guantanamo (153 kms.)
A total of ten foreign teams are competing along with cyclists from the host country. Besides the Cubans, other top racers include the Canadian team with Keven Lacombe, who won four stages of the event in 2009.
Cuban cyclist Arnold Alcolea will be seeking to repeat as the overall individual champion while Venezuela’s Jose Alarcon, second at the last Vuelta al Tachira, is also posed for a top showing.
