Cuba’s Sara Gonazlez Dead at 60

HAVANA TIMES, Feb 2 — Cuban musician Sara Gonzalez, a founder of the Nueva Trova movement, died here in Havana yesterday at the age of 60, reported Cuban national television news on its Wednesday evening broadcast.

Gonzalez, who had undergone colon surgery months previously, had made the details of her illness public in a statement this past September, when she he promised “discipline, humility, tolerance and everything necessary to regain her strength.”

Over her career, the singer shared the stage with artists such as Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes, Noel Nicola, Joan Manuel Serrat, Chico Buarque, Mercedes Sosa, Pete Seeger, Roy Brown, Pedro Guerra, Beth Carvalho and many others.
