Cuba’s PL News Agency Goes English in Print

The first edition of The Havana Reporter

HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 26 — Cuba’s official Prensa Latina news agency has begun publication of a weekly periodical in English.  Titled “The Havana Reporter”, the publication hopes to provide visitors with news and information including an entertainment guide.

The publication format is 16-page full color and will be sold at hotels, airports, travel agencies, airlines and other sales points frequented by tourists, said PL on Monday.

No mention was made whether The Havana Reporter would also be available online.

The initial edition includes interviews with hundred-year-old Cuban baseball player Conrado Marero,  Ricardo Alarcon, chair of the Cuban parliament, and Josefina Vidal, the Communist Party official who deals with North America.

In a message from the editor, The Havana Reporter stated: “Our purpose is to make it easier for visitors and people in other parts of the world to get closer to Cuba and to stay up to date on life on the island, and also to provide them with our view on current events in Latin America and the rest of the world.”
