Dengue Claims One Life in Eastern Cuba
HAVANA TIMES — The hemorrhaging type of the dengue virus that plagues Cuba’s Camaguey Province claimed its first human life early Monday morning, reported the Café Fuerte website.
“The victim was a young woman who was only 35 years old, though every effort was made to save her. When she arrived at the hospital, her platelets were less than 100, presenting a very complicated clinical picture,” indicated one worker from the Provincial Hospital of Camaguey to the website.
At an August 8 meeting of the Office of Provincial Public Health, Camaguey was declared as being on red alert, said that same unidentified employee.
“We can’t ensure that this is indeed the first casualty, since hospitals and schools have taken measures to accommodate those infected by dengue and cholera, and these are controlled by State Security to prevent information from leaking,” said Camaguey resident Santos Fernandez Sanchez.
