Gibara, Cuba Hosts Low-Budget Film Fest
HAVANA TIMES, March 24 – The 7th Humberto Solas International Non-Budget Film Festival takes place April 13-19 in the small coastal city of Gibara, Holguin in northeastern Cuba, announced Alexis Triana, the province’s director of culture.
Gibara was hard hit by Hurricane Ike on September 7, 2008, and work has continued non-stop every since to repair housing and other damaged infrastructure.
Responding to a call by actor Jorge Pedegorria, numerous artists donated their works for an online fundraising campaign to help with the reconstruction effort. The sale is still taking place at: www.arteporcuba.com
