Illegal Cuban Migrants Protest in Mexico

HAVANA TIMES — Undocumented Cubans, along with other Central and South Americans, rioted on Monday night at the Siglo XXI immigration station, reports the Mexican newspaper El Universal.

The illegal immigrants being detained in the Mexican station demanded their immediate release, as well as improvements in health care, food and accommodations, especially due to overcrowding in the cells of the Cubans, who were forced to sleep on the floor.

In these cells coexist “overcrowding and inhumane conditions,” children, women and men, some who have health problems. They are hoping to get “safe passage” to continue their journey to the United States, indicates the report.

Previously, those who had come from the island had been on a hunger strike demanding the speeding up of the paperwork that would allow them to leave Mexico.
