International Atomic Energy Agency Director Visits Cuba
HAVANA TIMES – The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA ), Yukiya Amano, is in Cuba for a three day official visit through Tuesday, reported Prensa Latina.
Cuba is carrying out ongoing technical cooperation projects with the IAEA in the areas of health, agriculture and the environment, and supports the opening of negotiations for an International Convention on Nuclear Disarmament..
According to the note, the IAEA has recognized the training of Cuban personnel in activities related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
In this regard, the Cuban nuclear facilities are subject to the safeguards of the international organization.
Cuba is an IAEA member state and complies with the Nuclear Arms Ban Treaty in Latin America and the Caribbean (Tlatelolco Treaty) as well as the Nuclear Arms Non-Proliferation Treaty.
