Mega Concerts to Back Cuban Gov.
HAVANA TIMES, April 10 — Several groups of internationally recognized Cuban musicians will perform at concerts in Havana and Santiago de Cuba at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in opposition to a string of attacks by the United States against the island’s government on accusations of human rights abuses.
The performers in the capital include Silvio Rodriguez, Paulo FG y su Orquesta, Amaury Pérez, the Buena Fe duo, David Blanco, Yoruba Andabo, Sara González, Vicente Feliú, Manuel Argudín, Gerardo Alfonso, Alexis Díaz Pimienta, Augusto Enríquez, Moneda Dura, Raúl Torres, Eduardo Sosa, el Grupo Doble Filo, Cándido Fabré y su orquesta, Pupy y los que Son Son, Baby Lores y Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco.
Writers on this site often write in a ‘code’ that is translucent at best; so us foreign readers generally have to guess at their meaning, not having the same context in our minds as native-born cubans who have lived all their lives on the island. So I’m assuming that in this article there’s yet another implied criticism about this official(?) government undertaking… because that seems to be the raison d’etre of this site.
For me however, every time I read one of these essays I can only think the same general thought: remember, cubans; be careful what you wish for — because you just might get it. But you will not be getting Miami, the bait in this “bait & switch” operation — you will be getting Guatemala. Or Colombia.
