Diana Nyad Fails in Cuba-Florida Swim

Diana Nyad made it over half way but could not finish her crossing of the Florida Straits.

HAVANA TIMES — Diana Nyad was out of the water as of 7:42 a.m. on Tuesday having given up on her fourth attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida.

The 62-year-old grandmother had made it over 60 miles of the 103-mile journey she began at the Hemingway Marina in Havana on Saturday.

On Tuesday morning Nyad’s website just published the news saying:

“Diana has been pulled from the water. We’ll have more information when it becomes available.

Note: Later on Tuesday morning, Mark Sollinger, who headed Nyad’s support team, told CNN that the swimmer was repeatedly stung by jellyfish during the night which forced her to give up her attempt to reach Flordia.
