Remains of Cuban Diplomat Identified in Argentina
HAVANA TIMES — The Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team identified the remains of Crescencio Galañena Hernandez, one of the two Cuban diplomats who was kidnapped and “disappeared” in Buenos Aires in 1976 by the military dictatorship, reported that country’s newspaper Pagina 12.
Research indicates that the body found on June 11 in a metal barrel filled with cement had a 99.99 percent chance of being that of the Cuban official.
The tank was found accidentally by children playing on a site facing the airfield in the locality of San Fernando.
Galañena Hernandez had been kidnapped in the Belgrano neighborhood, a few blocks from the Cuba embassy, taken to the secret Orletti Automotive detention center, one of the headquarters of the US-backed Operation Condor, where he was tortured and then “disappeared.”
