Romney Would Put the Screws to Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — Mitt Romney, the virtual Republican candidate for the US presidential elections in November, has criticized measures taken by the Barack Obama administration to relax restrictions against Cuba. Romney also praised the internal opposition on the island, reported the AFP.

“If I’m elected president, Castro’s regime will have no reason to doubt of our firm commitment to the cause of the people, and that regime will feel the whole weight of American determination,” said Romney.

Cuba’s Granma newspaper, in turn, considered the statements by the former Massachusetts governor to be “nothing new.” It added, “He’s only repeating the script of all the presidential candidates who look to court voters of Florida,” read a news note in the official newspaper.
