Swedish FM: Cuba Dialogue Includes HR
HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 11 – Human rights form part of the dialogue with Cuba, affirmed Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, whose country will end this month its six-month presidency of the European Union (EU).
When speaking in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Bildt ruled out that that subject would be excluded from the bilateral agenda, reported IPS.
Both sides froze their diplomatic relations in 2003 after the imprisonment of 75 opposition members on the island and Cuba’s rejection of meddling in its internal affairs.
Spain, the European country with the most investments and historical ties with Cuba, takes the helm of the EU for the first semester of 2010.
