Taiwan Upends Cuba 3-1 in Holland

HAVANA TIMES, June 27 — Taiwan’s Kuan Ju Chen pitched a complete game limiting Cuba’s powerful lineup to two hits and one lone first inning run to lead his undefeated team to a big 3-1 win at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam, Holland.

Yosvani Torres took the loss for Cuba going 6.2 innings allowing two earned runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out four. Ismel Jimenez came on in relief allowing the final Taiwan run in 2.1 innings.

Cuba also plays Germany on Monday.

The islanders are now 1-2 in fourth place in the tournament behind Taiwan (3-0), Curacao (2-1), Holland (2-2) and Germany is in the cellar with a (0-3) record.

The competition is a double round robin meaning Cuba will have another chance to face the two teams it has lost to, Curacao and Taiwan.
