Virgilio Piñera at the Cuba Book Fair

HAVANA TIMES, Feb 7 — The principal works written by the renowned Cuban playwright and poet Virgilio Piñera will see the light again during the upcoming 2012 Cuba International Book Fair, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The titles La carne de René, La isla en peso, Pequeñas maniobras, Presiones y diamantes, and Virgilio Piñera de vuelta y vuelta  are being reissued by the Ediciones Union publishing house, while Letras Cubanas will be putting out a new edition of his collected stories.

In addition to presentations at the fair — to be held from February 9 to 19 during its Havana juncture, in celebrations which have been called “the Virgilian year” — a new staging of the play “Aire frio” by the Argos Theatre Group will be included.

In addition to his work, Piñera is famous for his part in the meeting between Fidel Castro and intellectuals of the island in 1961.
