HAVANA TIMES — The graceful steps of the members of Danza Acosta, a young dance company founded by Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, delighted audiences at a premiere performance held on Friday, April 16. Offering free admittance, the show was dedicated to a number of personalities invited to attend and enjoyed broad press coverage.
A selection of classic pieces and new choreographies were staged for the occasion, including the well-known Majisimo, fragments of renowned works such as Pas de deux for Swan Lake and La Sylphide. Carlos Acosta performed next to ballerina Laura Rodriguez for the piece Diana.
Carlos Acosta currently trains 25 classic and contemporary dancers, rigorously selected by him on the basis of their background and physical characteristics, aiming to take young Cuban talent to other countries and stage a nationwide tour to include places that aren’t commonly exposed to ballet.
