HAVANA TIMES, May 6 — Hundreds of thousands of Cubans paraded through Havana’s Revolution Square last Saturday on International Workers’ Day accompanied by visiting labor leaders from around the globe and a sampling of rank-and-file workers who saved up to be on hand to celebrate with their Cuban counterparts.
The May Day parade has been a tradition during the last five decades under the Cuban revolution and the large turnouts are touted by the government as a symbol of the support exiting for the Revolution and its top leaders.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Brian Hattsberger, a British labor unionist in attendance told CNN while wiping the sweat from his brow with his red labor hat. “It’s just amazing.”
